How you can help

Small choices, big long-term impactPractical guidance for Miami Beach residents and visitors, from the current site.

Water usage

Small choices can make a big long-term impact. Even turning off your faucet while brushing your teeth or taking shorter showers adds up and helps conserve our local environment.

Composting

Residents must follow the city’s fertilizer ordinance, which bans fertilizer use from May 15 to November 1 (the rainy season) to prevent harmful nutrient runoff into Biscayne Bay. Through a partnership with the Surfrider Foundation, the city has supported the installation of 250 backyard composting bins. Residents can pick up free bags of compost at the Miami Beach Compost Hub on 84th Street and Collins Avenue.

Turtle season

From March 1 to October 31, residents must turn off beachfront lights visible from the shore and should not approach nesting turtles. Turtle Fest is an annual educational event in April with beach cleanups and interactive games focused on marine life.

Microplastics

Avoid microplastics. Support Plastic Free MB by visiting businesses certified for reducing single-use plastics.

Be ruff on the Bay

Pick up after your pet. You are legally required to pick up and properly dispose of your pet’s waste on our streets and beaches.

Don’t be trashy

Pack out everything you bring in — food wrappers, fruit peels and any other waste. When visiting Miami Beach parks and beaches, leave no trace: pick up after yourself and respect local wildlife.

Don’t trash our treasure

Our coral reefs are important. Take care of them by picking up after yourself to keep our beaches clean and free of pollution.

Fight the flood

Residential property owners can apply for up to $20,000 in funding through the Private Property Adaptation (PPA) Program for risk assessments and improvements like home elevation, floodproofing and green infrastructure. Program details.
